IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE
A thorough physical examination is the cornerstone to maintaining your pet's health and longvity. The doctor will check your pet's gums, teeth and oral cavity for the presence of periodontal disease, diseased teeth, growths and other abnormalities and will educate you about home dental care. The ears will be checked for signs of infection, often with the use of the otoscope to examine the ear canals. The eyes will be examined for evidence of inflammation, cataracts, aging changes, and changes in the eyelids and eyelashes. Fluorescein can be used to evaluate corneal damage, tear production can be measured, and tonometry can be used to measure intraocular pressure (a sign of glaucoma). The heart will be carefully listened to for signs of valvular heart disease or arrhythmias, and the lungs will be evaluated for signs of bronchitis, respiratory infections and other diseases. The abdomen will be thoroughly palpated for masses or other changes in the gastrointestinal system and vital organs. The skin and hair condition will be examined for signs of allergies, infections, and external parasites. Lymph nodes and mucous membranes will be checked for signs of disease. Your pet's weight will be assessed, and appropriate nutritional changes will be recommended.
Recommendations for preventative vaccinations will be given, customized to your pet's specific lifestyle and risk factors
During the physical examination, our desire is to be an advocate for your pet's optimum health and to be available to discuss any questionsor concerns that you may have.
